Polski Sierpień ‘80 to projekt realizowany przez kilka instytucji z Polski i Berlina - Wolskie Centrum Kultury, Instytut Pileckiego w Berlinie, Centrum Badań Historycznych PAN w Berlinie, StreetArt Berlin, Brain Damage Gallery oraz Fundację Współpracy Polsko Niemieckiej w 40. rocznicę Porozumień Sierpniowych i powstania polskiej „Solidarności” - jednego z najbardziej znaczących i największych ruchów społecznych na świecie. Narodziny Solidarności, która była jednocześnie związkiem zawodowym, ruchem społecznym i zjawiskiem kulturowym to wyjątkowy moment w historii Polski i Europy i wartości ważne dla nas Europejczyków również po 40 latach.

Rocznica Porozumień Sierpniowych 31 sierpnia 1980 r. to uczenie wyjątkowego momentu w najnowszej historii Polski i Europy – momentu niespotykanego w krajach komunistycznych - masowego i pokojowego protestu robotniczego, który przyniósł Europie jedność i demokrację. Fenomen tego wydarzenia to jego obywatelski i powszechny charakter. Zwykli robotnicy, prości ludzie, domagali się uznania przez władzę narodowej wolności i godności. W akcie tego protestu klasa robotnicza nie tylko stała się marksistowską „klasą dla siebie”, ale awangardą społeczeństwa obywatelskiego, które świadome jest swoich praw i potrafi zadbać o siebie. Ruch obywatelski „Solidarność” składał się z milionów anonimowych bohaterów, którzy mieli odwagę upomnieć się o prawa swoje i innych, i zaryzykować wolność, pracę czy mieszkanie.



THE POLISH AUGUST ‘80

On the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Polish “Solidarity” trade union, the Polish August ‘80 is a project being carried out by several institutions from Poland and Berlin – Wolskie Centrum Kultury, the Berlin branch of the Pilecki Institute, the Polish Academy of Sciences’ Center for Historical Research in Berlin, Street Art. Berlin, the Brain Damage Gallery, and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation – to celebrate one of the largest and most significant social movements in the world. The birth of “Solidarity” – a trade union, social movement and cultural phenomenon all in one – was a remarkable moment in the history of Poland and Europe, driven by values which remain just as important to Europeans 40 years later.

The anniversary of the August Agreements of 31 August 1980 is an occasion to commemorate a unique moment in the history of Poland and Europe, the moment of peaceful mass workers’ protests – an unprecedented incident in the Eastern Bloc – which brought both unity and democracy to Europe. The phenomenon of this event was in its universal and civic nature. Regular workers, simple folk, demanded that the national authorities respect their freedom and their dignity. By protesting, the working class not only became a Marxist “class of its own” but also an avant-garde civic community which knew its rights and was able to look after itself. The “Solidarity” social movement was formed from millions of unnamed heroes who were brave enough to stand up for their rights and the rights of others, to risk their freedom, their livelihood and their home.



DER POLNISCHE AUGUST 80’

Das Projekt Der Polnische August 80’ wird von mehreren Institutionen aus Polen und Berlin gemeinsam durchgeführt – dem Wolski-Kulturzentrum, dem Pilecki-Institut in Berlin, dem Zentrum für historische Forschung der Polnischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin, StreetArt Berlin, Brain Damage Gallery und der Stiftung für deutsch-polnische Zusammenarbeit am 40 Jahrestag der August-Abkommen und der Gründung der polnischen „Solidarność“ - einer der bedeutendsten und größten sozialen Bewegungen der Welt. Die Geburt der Solidarność, die gleichzeitig eine Gewerkschaft, eine soziale Bewegung und ein kulturelles Phänomen war, ist ein einzigartiger Moment in der Geschichte Polens und Europas und Werte, die für uns Europäer auch nach 40 Jahren noch wichtig sind.

Mit dem Jahrestag der August-Abkommen vom 31. August 1980 wird ein außergewöhnlicher Moment in der jüngeren Geschichte Polens und Europas gefeiert - ein in kommunistischen Ländern beispielloser Moment - der massenhaften und friedlichen Arbeiterproteste, die Europa Einheit und Demokratie brachten. Das Phänomen dieses Ereignisses ist sein bürgerlicher und universeller Charakter. Gewöhnliche Arbeiter, einfache Leute, forderten die Anerkennung der nationalen Freiheit und Würde durch die Regierung. Im Akt dieses Protests wurde die Arbeiterklasse nicht nur zu einer marxistischen „Klasse für sich“, sondern zur Avantgarde einer Zivilgesellschaft, die sich ihrer Rechte bewusst ist und für sich selbst sorgen kann. Die Bürgerbewegung „Solidarność“ bestand aus Millionen anonymer Helden, die den Mut hatten, für ihre eigenen Rechte und die Rechte anderer einzutreten und ihre Freiheit, Arbeit oder Wohnung zu riskieren.

IDEA

Ideą projektu Polski Sierpień 80’ realizowanego przez Wolskie Centrum Kultury, Instytut Pileckiego w Berlinie, Centrum Badań Historycznych PAN w Berlinie, StreetArt Berlin, Brain Damage Gallery oraz Fundację Współpracy Polsko Niemieckiej jest pokazanie tego fenomenu, przypomnienie wspólnych europejskich wartości oraz pokazanie siły polskiego społeczeństwa obywatelskiego, które doprowadziło do rozpadu reżimu komunistycznego w Europie Wschodniej.
Projekt Polski Sierpień 80 składa się z dwóch głównych elementów: utworzenie tematycznego muralu w przestrzeni miejskiej Berlina oraz zorganizowanie debaty o dziedzictwie Solidarności.


THE PROJECT

The idea behind the Polish August ‘80 project being carried out by Wolskie Centrum Kultury, the Berlin branch of the Pilecki Institute, the Polish Academy of Sciences’ Center for Historical Research in Berlin, Street Art. Berlin, the Brain Damage Gallery, and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation is to present the phenomenon, recall common European values and show the strength of the Polish community which brought about the collapse of the Communist regime in eastern Europe. The Polish August ‘80 project consists of two principal elements: the creation of a thematic mural in urban Berlin and the organization of a debate on the legacy of “Solidarity”.

PROJEKT

Die Idee des Projekts Der Polnische August 80’, das vom Wolski-Kulturzentrum, dem Pilecki-Institut in Berlin, dem Zentrum für historische Forschung der Polnischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin, StreeArt Berlin, Brain Damage Gallery und der Stiftung für deutsch-polnische Zusammenarbeit durchgeführt wird, ist es, dieses Phänomen aufzuzeigen, an gemeinsame europäische Werte zu erinnern und die Stärke der polnischen Zivilgesellschaft zu zeigen, die zum Zusammenbruch des kommunistischen Regimes in Osteuropa führte. Das Projekt Der Polnische August 80’ besteht aus zwei Hauptelementen: die Schaffung eines thematischen Wandbildes im Stadtraum von Berlin und die Organisation einer Debatte über das Erbe der Solidarność.

MURAL

Mural zaprojektowany i zrealizowany zostanie przez polskiego artystę Pawła Ryżko. Ulokowanie muralu w rekomendowanym miejscu, jakim jest Mauerpark będzie miało wymiar symboliczny. Wydarzenia w Polsce z sierpnia 1980 roku zostaną ukazane, jako swoiste wspólne doświadczenia oparte na identycznych wartościach oraz jako element wspólnej polskiej i niemieckiej historii poprzez ukazanie ciągłości zdarzeń i doniosłości Sierpnia 80’. Odsłonięcie muralu zaplanowane jest na 31 sierpnia 2020 r. Do przygotowania projektu muralu oraz jego wykonania zostali zaproszeni Paweł Ryżko i Cezary Hunkiewicz związani z lubelską Brain Damage Gallery.


THE MURAL

The mural will be designed and painted by the Polish artist Paweł Ryżko. Locating the mural in Berlin’s famous Mauerpark will have its own symbolic dimension; the events which occured in Poland in August 1980 will be presented as a common experience based on identical values and as an element of modern Polish and German history by showing the continuity of the events and the significance of August ‘80.
The unveiling of the mural is planned to take place on 31 August 2020.
The individuals invited to design and create the mural are Paweł Ryżko and Cezary Hunkiewicz, associated with the Brain Damage Gallery in Lublin.


WANDBILD

Das Wandbild wird von dem polnischen Künstler Paweł Ryżko entworfen und produziert. Der Standort des Wandbildes an dem empfohlenen Ort, dem Mauerpark, wird eine symbolische Dimension haben. Die Ereignisse in Polen vom August 1980 werden als eine Art gemeinsame Erfahrung auf der Grundlage identischer Werte und als ein Element der gemeinsamen polnischen und deutschen Geschichte gezeigt, indem die Kontinuität der Ereignisse und die Bedeutung des August 80’ aufgezeigt werden. Die Enthüllung des Wandbildes ist für den 31. August 2020 geplant. Paweł Ryżko und Cezary Hunkiewicz, die mit der Lubliner Brain Damage Gallery verbunden sind, wurden eingeladen, den Entwurf des Wandbildes vorzubereiten und das Wandbild selbst auszuführen.

PAWEŁ RYŻKO

- AUTOR -


Paweł Ryżko jest absolwentem Wydziału Grafiki i Malarstwa Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Łodzi. Jego twórczość opiera się głównie na plakacie, typografii i szablonie, stylistycznie nawiązując do tradycji konstruktywizmu. Sięga po proste motywy, płaskie formy, wyraziste kolory. Jego prace prezentowane są w Polsce, Europie i USA. Przez 5 lat współpracował z grupą Twożywo. Autor wielu murali oraz okładek płyt w tym m.in do albumu Franka Zappy „Hammersmith Odeon” wydanego z okazji 70. rocznicy urodzin artysty. Laureat Polish Graphic Awards.

Paweł Ryżko is a graduate of the Faculty of Graphics and Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. He specializes in posters, typography and stencils, stylistically rooted in the constructivist tradition. He favors simple motifs, flat forms and vivid colors. His works have been exhibited in Poland, Europe and the USA. For 5 years he cooperated with the Twożywo group. Author of many murals and album covers, including Frank Zappa’s “Hammersmith Odeon”, released on the 70 th anniversary of Zappa’s birth. Winner of the Polish Graphic Award.

Paweł Ryżko ist ein Absolvent der Fakultät für Grafik und Malerei an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Łódź. Seine Werke basieren hauptsächlich auf Plakaten, Typografie und Schablonen, stilistisch bezugnehmend auf die Tradition des Konstruktivismus. Er greift zu einfachen Motiven, flachen Formen, ausdrucksstarken Farben. Seine Werke werden in Polen, Europa und den USA präsentiert. 5 Jahre lang arbeitete er mit der Gruppe Twożywo zusammen. Er ist ein Autor zahlreicher Wandbilder und Albumcover, darunter für das Album von Frank Zapp „Hammersmith Odeon“, das anlässlich des 70. Jahrestags seines Geburtstags veröffentlicht wurde. Gewinner des Preises Polish Graphic Awards.

CEZARY HUNKIEWICZ

Cezary Hunkiewicz jest od ponad 20 lat związany z nurtem urban artu. Kurator kilkudziesięciu wystaw i projektów zrealizowanych w Polsce, Europie i USA. Współtwórca Brain Damage Gallery. Wydawca, autor publikacji i artykułów poświęconych szeroko rozumianej sztuce ulicznej. Socjolog i nauczyciel akademicki.

Cezary Hunkiewicz has been involved in urban art for over 20 years. Curator of dozens of exhibitions and projects realized in Poland, Europe and the USA. Co-creator of the Brain Damage Gallery. Publisher, author of articles and publications on broadly defined street art. Sociologist and university lecturer.

Cezary Hunkiewicz ist seit mehr als 20 Jahren mit dem Urban Art Trend verbunden. Er hat rund ein Dutzend Ausstellungen und Projekte in Polen, Europa und den USA kuratiert. Mitbegründer der Brain Damage Gallery. Herausgeber, Autor von Publikationen und Artikeln über Straßenkunst im weitesten Sinne. Soziologe und akademischer Lehrer.

DEBATA

Drugim elementem projektu jest debata ekspercka na temat roli i znaczenia Solidarności w przemianach społeczno - ekonomicznych w Polsce i na świecie. Debata odbędzie się w Berlinie oraz będzie prowadzona on-line.
